PFL also worked extensively with the Chester Upland School District in 2008 to launch a STEM-focused small community high school; The School of Science in Discovery, with a current enrollment of approximately 200 students in grades 9-10; additional grades are being added annually. PFL has continues to act in an advisory capacity to the district and in 2009 provided a one week residential program of math, Communication Arts and social enrichment programming for Chester Upland students to better prepare them for the academic rigor of the School of Science and Discovery. The founder, Dr. Melvin Allen is a regular speaker on issues regarding academic achievement gaps to educate the wider community on the issues facing low-income students in underperforming schools.
