PFL has developed a replicable model
that works:
-
PFL is academically driven, and
consequently empowers children to achieve success while also providing
long term maintenance.
-
PFL uses a cutting edge and hands-on
approach to effect change in achievement, behavior, and attitude
-
PFL has at its core the Residential
Summer Institute which gives middle school students unique and sustained
exposure to the college experience by offering them both the tools and
the ambition to achieve high academic standards. As a result, attending
college becomes a concrete and ideal goal.
-
PFL prepares students for taking
algebra in 8th grade; algebra is a gateway to academic achievement and
higher educational opportunity. In addition, PFL goes beyond the
literacy basics and provides many other tools for thriving academically.
-
PFL requires parent involvement
through community service requirements and educational workshops
throughout the year.
-
PFL has a proven track record of success spanning
more than sixteen years. Students across the eastern region of
Pennsylvania are currently being served, with requests from schools
in New Jersey and New York to bring the program to them.
-
PFL has maintained a low overhead cost, and
donations have a direct impact on students. Historically, 93% or
more of all support has gone to direct program services.
